Bio

Music Performer

Jason has been devoted to music since he was 6 years old. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a town of about 55,000 people. His father exposed him to music and piano playing early on. It seems that Jason was meant to be a musician from birth. He always had an ear for melody and could even make out proper pitches in his early years. His parents enrolled him in piano lessons at age 6 where he learned classical technique. He continued with the lessons well into his middle school years where he entered several competitions and judging. He always made excellent scores.

At the age of 11, Jason started taking orchestra classes at his elementary school and learned to play the violin. The violin would be the catalyst that would motivate him to learn the guitar. He enjoyed instruments with strings, and not long after learning the violin he started teaching himself how to play the guitar on his sister’s acoustic guitar. Having note reading and theory experience from his piano lessons helped him learn the guitar very quickly. A couple of years after studying the guitar he entered his 5th grade talent show and played his first solo gig in front of hundreds of students. The experience left him wanting more.

Jason enjoyed improving on the guitar throughout his middle school years and moved on to become a guitarist in his high school jazz band. Later on, the bass player quit and Jason took over bass duties, learning the stylistic aspects of jazz bass playing as well as improving his bass clef sight-reading skills. Jason took to the bass guitar very naturally.

Jason took bass guitar and piano lessons in college and eventually received his bachelor of music in composition from the University of Oregon. His final project was a 12 piece composition recital which included a brass quartet, woodwind quintet, saxophone quartet, mixed chamber-ensemble, a euphonium solo, and big band piece. In college, Jason became a proficient brass player and learned out to the player the euphonium, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and french horn.

Later on in his life, Jason moved to Boulder, CO in order to enjoy the creative atmosphere the city had to offer. He has taught and performed in Boulder and hope to pass the creative torch to his students so that they can experience the same fulfillment that music as brought him
