Guitar Lessons and Philosophy

Each student has his own ways of learning and Jason takes the time to really understand his students’ needs. He has students of many different ages and levels, so he makes sure that he keeps the lessons and practice materials exciting and educational.

Jason offers a free introductory lesson to see if his student and him will mesh well. In this lesson, he interviews the student (or parents) to find out more about his or her needs.  A lesson plan is conjured up based on these needs and goals are set. Plans might include note reading and theory or possibly composition and improvisation. Maybe chords and scales are what interests the student more. Regardless of the situation, Jason teaches many aspects of guitar, bass, banjo, and piano and can come up with a suitable lesson plan for each student.

Music theory is a great way to learn the “why’s” and “what’s” of music, but a large emphasis is also placed on building repertoire and learning songs that interests his students. He has a wide variety of music to choose from and a lot of resources to direct his students to finding the music they want.

Technology also plays a key role in the lessons. Jason is a computer programmer as well as a musician. He knows how to use the Internet as a valuable resource to find music and sample lessons so that students have a visual representation of what they are practicing at home. He feels this technology is a valuable tool for students these days.

Private lessons with Jason are available in Boulder, CO. Contact Jason at jkirby1325@gmail.com for a free introductory music lesson.
